In April 2007, 6 of us headed down the South Bass Trail for a week long backpack trip.
Ed and Kevin returned to the cars after a night on the Esplanade, just to get snowed in on the rim for two more days. When they finally made it back to Grand Canyon Village, they then headed down to Phantom Ranch on a less treacherous trail.
Randy, Char, Lori and Cheryl also got that precipitation but it was mostly a freezing cold rain.
The remaining days were sunny and warm. We hiked over to the Royal Arch Drainage, then down to camp out under Royal Arch (which is actually a Natural Bridge...)
We backtracked up the drainage to exit, then hiked on the Tonto to "the rappel".
Once at the Colorado River, we hiked down to Elves Chasm, then began backpacking upstream, eventaully hitting the Tonto trail.
Once we got to the South Bass Trail, we went to the river for the afternoon, then hiked up and out the South Bass Trail the next day.
A total of 7 nights below the rim. A great time was had by all!
